In der Geschichte der Psychoanalyse erweiterte sich der Focus von der solitären Betrachtung des Individuums immer mehr in Richtung interpersoneller Phänomene. Wie Fiedler (1994, S. 72-114) anschaulich nachzeichnet begann die Entwicklung mit Pionierleistungen einzelner Schüler Freud’s, die mit bestimmten „Dogmen“ der klassischen Analyse brachen und – soweit der „Bruch“ zu Lebzeiten Freud’s erfolgte – anschließend meist aus der psychoanalytischen Vereinigung ausgeschlossen wurden.

Nur stichpunktartig sind an dieser Stelle die Ansichten einiger bedeutender Psychoanalytiker zu erwähnen:

Die Ansichten von Alfred Adler (1911)

  • daß die sexuellen Störungen des Menschen ein sekundäres Phänomen darstellen, welches aus zwischenmenschlichen Konflikten resultiere,
  • daß die persönliche Entwicklung des Menschen sowie die Entstehung von Neurosen in Form von persontypischen Lebensstilen wesentlich durch Minderwertigkeitsgefühle angesichts einer konstitutionellen Organminderwertigkeit mitbestimmt bzw. begründet werde,
  • daß somit das Machtstreben bzw. das Streben nach Überlegenheit wesentliches Merkmal sowohl der neurotischen als auch der normalen Entwicklung der Persönlichkeit sei und
  • daß normale wie neurotische Personen die Organminderwertigkeiten kompensieren:
    • erstere, indem sie Kenntnisse und Kompetenzen erwerben und soziale Verantwortung übernehmen
    • letztere, indem sie die Kompensationsbemühungen in den sinnlosen Bereich von bloßer sozialer Konkurrenz verschieben.

Die Ansichten von C.G. Jung (1913; 1921)

  • daß Menschen über eine Art phylogenetisches, kollektives Unbewußtes untereinander in Verbindung stehen,
  • daß die „Libido“ weit über die Bedeutung als Sexualität hinaus als eine Art „positive Lebenskraft“ und im weitesten Sinne als „Liebe“ zu verstehen sei,
  • daß zur Individuation (und damit auch zur Charakterentwicklung) die ständige Auseinandersetzung mit der Außenwelt und den anderen Menschen erforderlich sei,
  • daß daher die persönliche Selbst-Verwirklichung in einem Spannungsverhältnis zwischen „Introversion“ und „Extraversion“ begründet liege und
  • daß Vereinseitigungen in Richtung einer der beiden Pole zu Störungen (z.B. Neurosen oder Schizophrenien) führen

Die Ausführungen von Karin Horney (1945)

denen zufolge

  • die individuelle gesunde oder neurotische Entwicklung ganz elementar davon abhänge, inwieweit die Erziehung es ermögliche, eine der Sozialisation in einer feindlichen Umwelt entsprungenen Grundangst zu verhindern oder zu überwinden,
  • ein Persistieren der Grundangst zu einer Abwehr- und Vermeidungshaltung, einer „Verarmung der Persönlichkeit“ und zu einer Fehlentwicklung führe, die sich in vier möglichen Formen zeigen könne:
    • in einer dependenten, versöhnlichen und ausgleichenden Grundhaltung, wenn Angst und negative Gefühle unterdrückt und/oder geleugnet werden
    • in einem ausgeprägten Bedürfnis nach emotionaler und räumlicher Distanz zur Umwelt mit der Folge zunehmender Entfremdung
    • in einer inneren Ausrichtung auf ein „idealisiertes Selbst“ mit entsprechenden Einschränkungen des zukünftigen Erfahrungshorizontes
    • in einer projizierenden Haltung und Externalisierung

Die Ansichten von Schultz-Hencke (1940)

  • daß nicht Triebkonflikt und Ödipuskomplex Kern der Persönlichkeitsentwicklung und der Neurosenentstehung seien, sondern eine durch Erziehungseinflüsse (Härte und/oder Verwöhnung) eintretende Hemmung des natürlichen, angeborenen Antriebserlebens des Kindes,
  • daß Sexualität nur eine Triebkraft der kindlichen Intentionalität sei,
  • daß das Kind daneben neugierig, emotional und explorativ auf die Welt hin ausgerichtet sei
  • daß das so geartete Antriebserleben des Kindes Entwicklungsphasen (ähnlich denen der Freudschen Sexualentwicklung) durchläuft und
  • daß Hemmungen umso schwerere Folgen haben, je früher sie einsetzen.

Schultz Hencke unterscheidet (nach Zeitpunkt der Schädigung) in aufsteigender Reihe folgende fünf strukturellen Fehlentwicklungen:

  • die schizoide Struktur, entstanden durch frühkindliche Intentionshemmung bezüglich engerer zwischenmenschlicher Beziehungserfahrungen
  • die depressive Struktur, entstanden durch Unterbindung oraler oder oral/aggressiver Impulse durch erzieherische Härte oder Verwöhnung
  • die zwangsneurotische Struktur, entstanden durch die Beschneidung des Bedürfnisses Besitz zu ergreifen oder die Umwelt zu explorieren
  • die hysterische Struktur, entstanden durch die Unterdrückung sexueller Intentionen im vierten oder fünften Lebensjahr
  • die neurasthenische Struktur, entstanden aus kombinierten Hemmungserfahrungen der ersten fünf Lebensjahre

Das Phasenmodell der Ich- und Persönlichkeitsentwicklung von Erik Homburger Erikson (1950)

welches

  • vor allem auf die Beschreibung der gesunden Entwicklung ausgerichtet ist
  • die persönliche Entwicklung des Menschen von der gelungenen oder fehlgeschlagenen Bewältigung, spezifischer, an bestimmte Lebensphasen gebundene Konfliktkonstellationen abhängig sieht, die sich über das gesamte Leben hinwegziehen und nicht auf die frühe Kindheit begrenzt sind
  • den besonderen Stellenwert der im Zusammenhang mit den Konflikten auftretenden „Lebens-Krisen“ ( d.h. des subjektiven Ausdruck innerer und äußerer Konflikte) als Ausgangspunkt auch für positive Veränderungen und neue Entwicklungen betont
  • folgende acht Konfliktkonstellationen und Lebensphasen unterscheidet:
    • Urvertrauen gegen Urmißtrauen (entspricht der „oralen“ Phase)
    • Autonomie gegen Scham und Zweifel (entspricht der „analen“ Phase)
    • Initiative gegen Schuldgefühl (entspricht der „ödipalen“ Phase)
    • Werksinn gegen Minderwertigkeitsgefühle (Übergang in soziale Aktivitäten)
    • Identität gegen Identitätsdiffusion (Adoleszenz und Notwendigkeit zur psychosozialen Selbstdefinition, besondere Gefahr des Abgleitens in Kriminalität, Alkohol- oder Drogenabhängigkeit)
    • Intimität gegen Isolation (besondere Vulnerabilität gegenüber sozialen Zurückweisungen, Möglichkeit der Entstehung von Psychopathien)
    • Generativität gegen Stagnation (25. bis 65. Lj.)
    • Ichintegrität gegen Verzweiflung und Ekel (Bilanzierungsphase, besondere Anfälligkeit für die Ausbildung von Ekel, Lebensüberdruß, Bitterkeit, Todesangst oder Abwertung Anderer)

Die Auffassungen von Harry Stack Sullivan, dem Begründer der „interpersonellen Theorie der Psychiatrie“ (1953)

    • die Dissozialen
    • die „inadäquaten“ Persönlichkeiten (anklammernd hilflos, führungsbedürftig)
    • die homosexuellen Persönlichkeiten
    • die chronisch Adoleszenten (Idealisten, Wunschträumer)
    • die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung von der Personifizierung eines Selbst oder eines Selbstsystems abhängig machte im Sinne einer „Struktur von Glaubenssätzen, Generalisierungen und Annahmen über jene Erfahrungen und Wahrnehmungen, die das Kind, der Jugendliche und der Erwachsene im Laufe des Lebens macht.“ Es handelt sich bei den „Selbst-Konstruktionen“ um ein „affektiv gesteuertes Netz erklärender, kognitiv-theoretischer Konstruktionen.“ (Fiedler, 1994, S. 87)
  • den Prozeß der Selbstsystem-Entwicklung von zwei interpersonell bedeutsamen, einander entgegengerichteten (reziproken), aber miteinander wechselwirkenden Bedürfnistendenzen abhängig macht (s.a. Schaubild im Anhang), nämlich der
    • Tendenz zur interpersonellen Bedürfnisbefriedigung und der
    • Tendenz zur Angstminimierung
  • das Selbstsystem deshalb auch als „Anti-Angst-System“ bezeichnet, weil die Bedürfnisbefriedigung von dem Bedürfnis der Angstminimierung dominiert wird.
  • sogenannte „Sicherheitsoperationen“ dieses Selbst-Systems beschreibt, die dem Zweck der Angstminderung dienen und die das gesamte Spektrum neurotischer und psychotischer Symptomatologie umfassen, so z.B. (H.S.Sullivan, 1940; s.a. Fiedler, 1994, S. 90)
    • selektive Unaufmerksamkeit
    • Apathie
    • Lethargie
    • Irrationale Wut
    • Steriler Zorn
    • Verweigerung
    • Projektion u.a.
  • diese Sicherheitsoperationen und v.a. die Fähigkeit zur selektiven Unaufmerksamkeit gegenüber Angsterfahrungen in interpersonellen Situationen zu entscheidenden Determinanten der individuellen Persönlichkeitsentfaltung macht

Die Ansichten von Erich Fromm (1941)

denen zufolge

  • „die menschliche Persönlichkeit grundsätzlich nur in ihrer Beziehung zur Welt, zu den anderen Menschen, zur Natur und zu sich selbst zu verstehen ist“ und nicht etwa, wie bei Freud, lediglich als ein Produkt des Umgangs mit Trieben und Triebabkömmlingen. Fromm: „Ich halte den Menschen primär für ein gesellschaftliches Wesen und glaube nicht, wie Freud es tut, daß er primär selbstgenügsam ist und nur sekundär die anderen braucht, um seine triebhaften Bedürfnisse zu befriedigen. In diesem Sinne glaueb ist, daß die Individualpsychologie im Grunde Sozialpsychologie ist, oder – um mit Sullivan zu reden – Psychologie zwischenmenschlicher Beziehung. Das Schlüsselproblem der Psychologie ist das Problem der besonderen Art der Bezogenheit des einzelnen auf die Welt, und nicht die Befriedigung oder Frustrierung einzelner triebhafter Begierden. Das Problem der Befriedigung der triebhaften Begierden des Menschen ist als Teil des Gesamtproblems seiner Beziehungen zur Welt zu verstehen, und nicht als das Problem der menschlichen Persönlichkeit.“ (Fromm, 1983, S. 248)
  • man eine Reihe von Charaktertypen aufgrund ihrer Produktivität unterscheiden kann.
    Die nicht-produktiven Charaktere (das sind die, die nicht nach Liebe, Kreativität, Wahrheitsfindung, geistigen Dingen, Individuation, Vernunft und Lebensbejahung streben) sind diejenigen, die bei extremer Ausprägung Charakterstörungen darstellen. Zu ihnen gehören

    • der rezeptive Charakter (extreme Orientierung an haltgebenden äußeren Bezugspersonen, bis hin zur masochistischen Unterwürfigkeit)
    • der ausbeuterische Charakter (Haben-Orientierung, Ausbeutung A_nderer, auch Sadismus und Herrschsüchtigkeit)
    • der hortende Charakter (Ordnung und Sicherheit, Angst vor gefühlsmäßig intensiven Beziehungen)
    • der merkantile Charakter (Selbstsicherheit durch Anpassung, sich gut „verkaufen“)
    • der nekrophile Charakter (destruktive Angst vor allem Lebendigen, z.B. unerbittliche Hüter von „Recht und Ordnung“ bis zur Anwendung von Gewalt gegen sich selber oder andere)
  • der Mensch sich auf dem Wege zur Individuation in einem ständigen Spannungsfeld zwischen der Pseudosicherheit totalitärer Gesellschaftsstrukturen und der Scheinfreiheit merkantilistisch-kapitalistischer Systeme und damit in einem Konflikt zwischen Auflehnung oder Unterwerfung befindet. Als existentielles Dilemma bezeichnet Fromm den Umstand, daß der Mensch mit größer werdender Freiheit und Unabhängigkeit auch einsamer werde, andererseits aber mit zunehmendem Konformismus und mangelhafter Individuation psychische Störungen und Charakterstörungen entwickele. Grundsätzlich besteht jedoch die Möglichkeit, sich aus gesellschaftlichen Zwangsjacken zu befreien. Fromms Konzepte sind eng mit marxistischem Gedankengut verbunden. Zeitlebens versuchte Fromm eine Synthese zwischen der Psychoanalyse und dem Marxismus herzustellen.
