Achtung:Epidemiologische Daten in der Forschungsliteratur weisen oft erhebliche Schwankungen und Unterschiede auf. Dies liegt oft an unterschiedlichen Ein- und Ausschlusskriterien hinsichtlich Definition der Störung, Einbezug von Einzelphasen oder Gesamtverlauf, sämtlicher Manifestationen oder nur bestimmter Schweregrade etc.. Dies gilt auch für die Untersuchungen über Häufigkeit und Verteilung der Depression und der depressiven Zustände. Deshalb sind die nachfolgend genannten und aus der Fachliteratur zusammengestellten Zahlen nur als grobe Anhaltspunkte zu werten und sind bei Bedarf persönlich durch eigene Beschäftigung mit der Literatur zu überprüfen!

Durchschnittliche Prävalenz nach WHO (Weltgesundheitsorganisation): 10,4%
Bestimmt man nicht die durchschnittliche Prävalenz, hängen die ermittelten Prävalenzzahlen von sehr vielen Einflussfaktoren ab, z.B. davon

  • wo die Bestimmung erfolgte (z.B. in einem Allgemeinkrankenhaus, beim Hausarzt, in einer psychiatrischen Klinik, auf dem Land oder in der Stadt etc.),wann sie erfolgte (z.B. in Krisenzeiten),
  • welche Population untersucht wurde (z.B. Altersgruppe, Geschlecht, Menschen mit oder ohne andere Erkrankungen etc.)

Prävalenz der Depression:

  • Lebenszeitprävalenz:    12 – 17%Einjahresprävalenz:    05 – 10%
  • Sechsmonatsprävalenz:    02 – 07%

Inzidenz der Depression pro Jahr:

  • 2% (2 Neuerkrankungen auf 100 Personen)

Geschlechts-Verteilung bei Depressionen:

  • Männer:    07 – 12%
  • Frauen:     20 – 25%

Erstmanifestationsalter einer Depression (durchschnittlich):

  • meist zwischen 30. und 40. Lj.aber auch bereits bei Kindern und Jugendlichen sind depressive Störungen zu finden
  • zweiter Gipfel bei Personen über 60 Jahre (late-onset depression)

Depressionen im Alter:

  • Menschen >65J. (Altersdepression):    15 – 25%
  • Rate in Altenheimen:      26 – 40%

Depressionen bei körperlichen Erkrankungen:

  • Diabetes mellitus:     10%Herzinfarkt:      20%M. Parkinson:     30 – 50%Epilepsie:      20 – 30%Dialysepatienten:      10 – 20%Schlaganfall:;      25 – 35%
  • Karzinompatienten:      25 – 40%

Prävalenz:

Anzahl der Erkrankungsfälle einer bestimmten Erkrankung bzw. Häufigkeit eines bestimmten Merkmals zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt (Punktprävalenz) oder innerhalb einer bestimmten Zeitperiode (z.B. Lebenszeit prävalenz).

Prävalenzrate:

Anzahl der Erkrankten bzw. Häufigkeit des Merkmals im Verhältnis zur Anzahl der untersuchten Personen.

Inzidenz:

Anzahl der Neuerkrankungsfälle einer bestimmten Erkrankung innerhalb eines bestimmten Zeitraums.

Inzidenzrate:

Anzahl der Erkrankungsfälle einer bestimmten Erkrankung oder die Häufigkeit eines bestimmten Merkmals zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt (Punktprävalenz) oder innerhalb einer bestimmten Zeitperiode (z.B. Lebenszeitprävalenz).

Komorbidität:

das gleichzeitge Erkranktsein an mehreren Erkrankungen (z.B. Depressionen und Zuckerkrankheit).
